[Frederique Matti] Secret Studio Sale & Moved to Substack

Hi Friends!

First a little bit of housekeeping: I’m here to tell you i’ve moved e-mail platforms once more. Substack seems to provide the tools that I need to continue my newsletter. My goal is to start writing about creating things, making art, things on the internet and unconventional career paths.

What’s the story with the hands?

People often asked me “why (only) hands???” and I never really knew how to answer that because it was “just something I was doing” it felt right.

But in retrospect the hands were a device for me to teach myself how to paint. The hand itself was something i’ve drawn for years and it became the start of my art career. It was a shorthand (haha) for being able to start every day and know “what to paint”. It taught me how to work with oil paints, what mediums do, how some colours are more opaque than others and many more things. It opened my love for painting, so the hands are very dear to me.

After painting so many, the hands made me confident enough to take on other subjects and develop my visual language more into what it is today.

To wrap up, I'd like to tell you about my Secret Studio Sale. I'll be relocating my studio at the end of the month, and it's time for some of these hands to find a new home. I hope they inspire you to pursue something you've been longing to do or try, just as they did for me.
